Why F2S?

Why should producers sell to schools?

Promotes Kid’s Health
F2S offers access to fresh, healthy, locally- and sustainably-grown foods to all school children. Experience shows that eating habits developed at school age carry on into adulthood. It is expected that exposure to more fruit and vegetables in school, as opposed to highly processed foods, will continue and increase demand for these products in the future.

Supports the Community
F2S deepens connections between schools and their communities. By highlighting the roles of their community resources of farmers, ranchers, and related businesses, the students develop a sense of their place in their community, while helping preserve family farms and farmland by developing stable, institutional markets for local agricultural products.

New Market
F2S provides a new market for producers. Schools represent a new and reliable market opportunity for producers where they may be able to sell their crops directly and receive full value, thereby ensuring income stability and greater economic viability.

Product Marketing
F2S increases your ability to reach new buyers. Children may love your product so much that they convince their parents to visit your farm in order to purchase it for their home consumption. Through Farm-to-School programs consumers or buyers become more closely acquainted with you, the producers, which means that they are more likely to purchase in the future from you.

The Future
It supports the health of our kids and the health of our planet, because these two things are necessarily interconnected.
